Some thoughts about Dark Nights: Metal #5

Everything is lost.

The heroes are falling one by one and their only hope is to keep fighting a war they can't win.

Things are getting darker all right.

Scott Snyder continues his event where he keeps making all the DCU heroes lose the little faith they have left. As you should have noticed, the theme of this story has been about how the main DCU is pretty much doomed by facing the Dark Multiverse and each subsequent issue has been emphasizing more and more that idea. This chapter is probably the biggest example of that with every member of the Justice League fighting impossible threats and things get worse and worse with every page. Of course, we all know that they're bound to win at the end but I believe the plot does a good job at making this look hopeless.

I don't like how the tie-ins are immensely relevant to the story though. Hawkman: Found is pretty important to know what happened to Carter Hall and his involvement in the plot and while this is one of the few cases, I still think it could have been handled better. The characterization is solid though since many classic faces are returning and there are a few solid references here and there as well.

Greg Capullo's artwork is wonderful as usual with wonderful character models, vibrant tone combined with a dark atmosphere that gets the best from the script and powerful storytelling.

Good overall but I'm ready for this to be over considering the time spent on it.
