Some thoughts about Deathstroke Annual #1

Is Defiance done?

Deathstroke has been trying to make his team and new life work but the sudden death of one of them could ruin everything.

An oversized installment of this inspired direction is exactly what I needed.

Christopher Priest utilizes this Annual to tell a pretty interesting story while creating plot-points for the future at the same time. The character work has been one of the most powerful aspects of this run and this premise doesn't disappoint since we explore different members of the cast that are connected to many themes that Priest loves to explore which include Power Girl's religion and how that clashes with Jericho's lifestyle, Wally's desire to help others and keep both of his teams safe, Adeline and Slade's troubled relationship and his frustration after the doomed fate of his team.

Tanya's insecurities play a huge role in this story which is something that the author has been building-up for a while and it all comes together towards the surprising ending where Priest's plays with readers' expectations by delivering a depressing and yet relieving conclusion.

Larry Hama and Denys Cowan handle the art and the result is pretty solid from a storytelling perspective although the rough artstyle might not be everyone's cup of tea.

Pretty solid Annual overall, wonder where things are going now.
