Some thoughts about The Wild Storm #24

Is this the end of the world?

Henry Bendix has finally unleashed his attack against Earth and Miles Craven has completely lost control of everything. Is up to the rest to try to save this planet.

And here it is people, the moment we never thought it would actually come, the actual conclusion of The Wild Storm. Constantly delayed and lasting way longer than it should, The Wild Storm was sadly not the consistent book I was hoping for, especially because of Warren Ellis' widescreen style that made most issues lack in content in favor of spectacle which made the delays even more painful. So, does this conclusion at least manages to create a satisfying finale?

Kinda I guess?

The war that was forever teased has started at last and is cool to see all the major players working together for the common goal of saving the planet. It's also cool to see the most powerful people in the world, Bendix and Craven, quickly lose control basically because of their own fault which is the typical social commentary that you can expect from Ellis. The rest of the cast are pretty much the ones who save the situation and they get a good portrayal because of it while the final issue promises bigger things for the future.

That being said, as a conclusion this left a lot of things unfinished. Many characters like Voodoo and Zealot who initially seemed like they were going to have an important part in this series mattered very little at the end or they didn't even appear. Several plot-threads like John Finch's and Michael Cray's receive an abrupt finish. The worst part about this is that Ellis tries to justify the lack of proper resolutions by saying that "This wasn't really about the secret history of the universe" pretty much telling the audience who were invested in the discovery of this new universe that they wasted their time here.

Jon Davis-Hunt remains in art duties and his work is still strong thanks to the attention to detail and great storytelling.

And that's how I would call The Wild Storm as a whole: Inconsistent. There were some good ideas here, really endearing characters too but at the same time you had to spent a lot of time in nothing and at the end quite a bit of it meant nothing too. Hope the upcoming Wild Cats series doesn't have the same fate.
