Some thoughts about Adventures of the Super Sons #12

Is the story of the Super Sons over?

Damian and Jon are ready to face Rex Luthor once for all and to do so, they will have to meet the all-powerful being that they have known for a while now.

This maxiseries has finally come to a conclusion and this would have worked much better if this series had at least half the issues.

And this is a real shame since I believe that Peter Tomasi nailed the characters and their interactions as always. The problem is that this book quickly went in circles with the whole focus on Rex Luthor and his Injustice League and no matter how much I like the idea of little supervillains, this still became really repetitive. I believe this could have been better executed if the boys would have met others heroes from the DCU but being forced into this alternate future really limited their possibilities.

This final issue for example plays with an idea that Tomasi introduced during his Superman run and does it in a decent way but it almost comes out of nowhere and doesn't really have an important role in the grand scheme of things once that you think about it. Also, the characters who were narrating the story initially were older versions of Jon and Damian obviously, no surprise.

Carlo Barberi continues to handle the pencils and his work is still good thanks to his expressive style although some of his 90s tendencies start to show like how Jon's hair starts to become really exaggerated at times.

Not a bad finale but it should have been much better and this title should have been way shorter. Shame overall.
