Some thoughts about Hawkeye #1

There can only be one Hawkeye.

Kate Bishop is ready to make the mantle of Hawkeye her own and for the motive she's going to start a new career as P.I. and handling one of the worst threats today, an internet harasser.

Hawkeye gets a new beginning and this time is focusing on the youngest person who owns the name. I have been a fan of Kate since she was created and I like how she offers a different background from Clint's. Now written by Kelly Thompson is about to face all the trolls in the world who threaten women online.

You might be thinking that I'm joking here but this is actually a serious and interesting topic.

Online harassment does occurr and it happens to both women and men, it doesn't really discriminate between genders and cause serious damage to the victims. Sure, some of the cases are indeed exaggerated at times when they can be easily ignored (and some even use them in their favor in a few instances which is pretty despicable), but is still real problem that happens quite often and can make a person feel threatened and persecuted.

The way how Kelly Thomson handles the concept is interesting and while is the main focus of the opening issue, it still takes its time to introduce Kate to new readers and reveal more about her personality and life as well as nicely setting-up her new direction. The dialogue works solidly for this with enough charisma to bring the best from her interaction with other characters.

Best of all, the social commentary is not that one-sided (which is something I've seen really often these days as well), it presents a few common complaints but does it in a way where sometimes is simply a misunderstanding or it also dares to take it into a different direction than the expected. Is pretty balanced in that regard.

Leonardo Romero is in charge of the pencils and is reminiscent to the style used during Matt Fraction's run with a clean style and a huge focus on storytelling. Particularly liked the use of targets for Kate's vision.

Quite promising beginning, the following issues better be just as good.
