Some thoughts about Secret Origins #11

Meet the different origins from these heroes from a new perspective.

What is Guy Gardner's fate? What is the true origin of John Constantine? How did Black Canary gained her name?

This issue marks yet another conclusion for this series and fortunately it works for the most part.

The first section belongs to Guy Gardner written by Landry Walker. It's actually a quite solid story that focuses on the early years of Guy while also touching several of points of his life and it's also connected to the 0 issue of Green Lantern Corps, it's overall a nice retelling of Guy's life up to this point. Scott Hepburn is on art duties and his work is competent with a pretty dark style.

The second segment is focused on Constantine written by Ray Fawkes. This is a great way to interprete Constantine's origin due that the writer starts playing with people's expectations about what is truly the beginning of this character and while the stories Fawkes tell might be true, they also could be fake, it's an excellent manner to end his work on this character. Richard Isandve is in charge of the artwork and his work is quite distinctive and manages to use different styles for the different origins.

The third part is concentrated on Black Canary written by Christy Marx. Sadly, this story is not really as good due that it mostly a retelling without anything being truly different, worst of all you realize how convoluted Dinah's life is a this point, decent at best. Rick Burchett's artwork however, is quite good with a nice cartoony and clean look.

Overall, I would say that enjoyed the Constantine origin the best, followed by Guy Gardner's and Black Canary on a distant third. Solid issue and conclusion still.
