Some thoughts about Dastardly and Muttley #1

The birth of one of the greatest duos in history is about to start.

Dick Dastardly can't believe that he was paired along with Mutt to handle an important mission but an accident will make him realize that both need each other more than ever.

I was really anticipating this series for a while and I'm happy to say that is pretty satisfying so far.

As most people should know, I'm a huge fan of Garth Ennis and his ability to create incredibly HUMAN characters as well as believable relationships between them and those aspects are surprisingly present here. For people who don't know, this is based on the classic Hanna Barbera characters Dick Dastardly and Muttley but these are not the same characters who appeared in Wacky Raceland (thank God for that) and is mostly based on the cartoon Dastardly and Muttley in Their Flying Machines where they were both pilots.

This being Garth Ennis, it obviously has a huge connection to war and social commentary at the same time and is surprisingly fitting based on the kind of theme he's going for. Is a more "realistic" take on the property in that sense but that realistic aspect is quickly thrown out of the window once that cartoony events start occurring with barely any explanation. There's apparently a mystery about such event and is seemingly infecting the real world in multiple ways and interested in seeing more of it.

As I already mentioned, Ennis' works tend to have strong relationships between the characters and here you can get some glances about it since despite that Dastardly apparently can't stand Mutt, he still demonstrates some concern about him which shows how their friendship is going to be developed and this progresses nicely towards the hilarious end.

Mauricet's artwork is simply perfect for this due that he's able to combine both the normal events along with the more cartoony ones perfectly, all of them with a pretty polished and appealing style.

Quite good read, already excited to see more.
