Nightwing is dead, Dick Grayson lives on.
After the terrible events that revealed Dick's secret identity to the world, he had no other choice but to be assigned to other kind of mission which could be the most important that he had to face in his life. Now as an agent of Spyral, Dick Grayson will have to protect the world no matter if anybody knows of his existence.
The first issue of the new series featuring one of the most relevant characters from the DCU. As I mentioned in the past, DC decided to give a new direction to the protagonist of this story after the events of Forever Evil, the question is: Is it a good one?
I'm glad to say that so far it is and it has a pretty entertaining story to boot.
Tim Seeley and Tom King have truly do their homework about the history of this hero, fans of Dick Grayson will be happy to know that this story is faithful to the character, this is pretty much the same hero that you have seen in multiple stories in the past concerning his compassionate and adventurous personality, not to mention that he's portrayed as a pretty competent agent on his own right.
There is also a lot of things to admire for people who are looking for a new direction. Spyral is certainly an interesting setting and concept to include in this series and one that has been exploited pretty well in this issue, I especially enjoyed the way how hypnosis is utilized and how it plays a certain theme in the story. The ideas injected here are quite compelling and hopefully they will continue coming.
But if I have to be honest with myself and you, the most important aspect that attracted me to this series was Mikel Janin's pencils. I have been a fan of his work since his Justice League Dark days and I'm glad to see him back on an ongoing, his style is incredible detailed, creative and he brings a lot of personality to the characters thanks to how expressive it is, all looks beautiful of course.
Really promising beginning for this new title, I would dare to say that it's one of the best relaunchs for a character that I've seen lately.
