The final fight for the fate of Earth 2 is upon us.
Val-Zod has finally accepted the role as the Superman of Earth 2 and has decided to confront the old owner of the mantle who is not exactly in his best mental state. Now both Val and Alan Scott will have to confront Kal-El if they want to make their world survive.
So I guess my prediction about Earth 2's destruction was wrong!
Although the ramifications will be the same if what they teased in this issue truly occurs.
Let's talk about the story. As seen in the previous issue, Val accepts to become the new Superman and help in the fight against Kal-El while the rest, or remaining, Wonders of the World get rid of the rest of the enemies from Apokolips.
There are some good character moments here. The Flash finally has a moment of glory while Green Lantern also receives a nice portrayal, there's also a pretty twisted segment focusing on Kal-El and his current relationship with his family. All of these scenes are consistently depicted, kudos to Tom Taylor for them.
However, despite of the oversized format of this issue, this still felt like a pretty fast read which is one of the most common complaints about this series since this run started, I wish that they would deliver a bit more content for the money.
Also, how was Val able to fix the Helmet of Fate? Isn't one of the Kryptonians' weaknesses magic?
Nicola Scott brings an amazingly gorgeous artwork, her style has improved a lot since she started on this series and she's able to create great scenes that makes this series feel like an event book.
Overall, this was a solid issue, not as many complaints as before but some of my worries about the future still remain.
