After surviving the most recent menaces that have been threatening him, Silver Surfer can finally take a break.
Dawn Greenwood is back to earth after a short encounter with the Guardians of the Galaxy and now Norrin Radd will have to meet her very common family and possibly try to get a glance of a normal life until the next time danger comes searching for him which might be sooner than expected.
This issue is a change of pace from the usual cosmic adventures and it's one that I welcome completely.
Dan Slott uses this chapter of the current series to tell what essentially is an one-and-done, character focused story based on both Norrin and Dawn, it pretty much explores what kind of persons each of them are and how different are from one another. It works wonderfully and probably makes one of the most "human" portrayals for Silver Surfer that I've ever seen.
It's necessary to add that the writer doesn't take the character nor universe that he works on seriously and that makes this tale much more enjoyable. There are several scenes where Slott makes fun of the kind of beings that appear here like Rocket Raccoon and the typical superhero stuff that occur in the Marvel universe, it creates a pretty hilarious read.
Mike Allred makes the script so, so much better thanks to his impecable storytelling skills and beautiful characters and settings that ooze style and creativity, he continues to give this title the personality that has defined it.
Excellent issue, the best of the week for me no matter the company.
