Some thoughts about The New Champion of Shazam #3

The world is not ready for the new Shazam.

Mary is suffering the online backlash from people who can't accept her as the new owner of the mantle but there are more important things to worry about since her own family is in danger now.

Yeah, I should have seen this coming since the first issue.

And is not like I was actually expecting it since I genuinely felt that issue 2 was an actual improvement due that it created a logical character development for both Mary and her family. However, it seems like Josie Campbell wants to double down on the problems of the opening chapter by calling out the people who complaint about the new book (Because everyone knows that criticizing the critics always turns out well right?). To be fair though, is not like Campbell dedicates the full chapter to it and instead creates an appropriate depictment of how online harassment can affect someone which is interesting enough... on the other hand, that wasn't what the series was about at all so far and thus it makes me suspect that Campbell is writing this as a response to the response which again, is pretty predictable and doesn't progress the plot itself (Also, "Don't read the comments" is such an early 2000s mentality).

Not to mention that Campbell seems to believe that people are criticizing this series because the protagonist is a woman getting the Shazam powers (and I'm sure it happens because some people are just assholes) when my main problem has always been how uninteresting the whole story about Mary going into college is, how dull the antagonists are and how overwritten the writing is (Problems that are not fixed so far by the way). Plus, I think that, besides Freddy, Mary is the more fitting candidate to get the power of Shazam, unfortunately Campbell couldn't create a decent direction with it and let's not even talk about the complete lack of worldbuilding (and worldbuilding is something that any Shazam book should have). Credit where credit is due though, I liked the way how they introduced Uncle Marvel here.

Doc Shaner handles the art and his semi-cartoony style is once again perfect for the franchise but there's barely anything interesting to draw here.

Very little to see here and I don't expect much from the conclusion.
