Some thoughts about Justice Society of America #1

Who can save Justice Society of America?

Huntress is trying to find out who is hunting members of her team and by doing so she will have to join some of their most dangerous enemies but the most dangerous of them all is about to appear.

Geoff Johns continues his reinvention of the Golden Age by doing what he does best: Retcons.

Yes, yes, Johns can sometimes be a bit infamous about such topic but this time it makes a lot of sense considering the changes in the timeline and how it affects the ongoing story. We open with the Huntress investigating a new case that is bound to destroy the JSA from its roots and introducing a few known and new characters that are connected to the team's history. At first glance is kinda predictable from Johns to include a team consisting mostly of villains but still is fun to see people like Solomon Grundy or Icicle interacting with Helena and Power Girl, the characterization is pretty spot-on and manages to create an engaging dynamic between the cast.

... For as little it lasts since all predictability vanishes halfway and the writer basically decides to create yet another direction for the team, one that involves the classic JSA villain Per Degaton and I must say that Johns depicts him as a much more powerful threat than ever before by executing his time traveling abilities in pretty creative ways and of course, sets-up the next mission for Huntress and what the title will be all about.

Mikel Janin handles the art and is beautiful all-around with expressive characters and a clean style that depicts every scene powerfully.

As far as opening chapters go, this gets the job done solidly and makes me curious about what's going to happen next. Fine read.
