Some thoughts about Batgirl #46

How can Batgirl save her city from an insane villain?

Dasha Berlova has been using people's lives for her plans and now Barbara has to find a way to stop her before she succeeds.

Yeah, this arc simply didn't work.

Cecil Castellucci concludes this little storyline in a rather predictable way. First of all, the villain is as by the numbers as you can get, is the typical "Yes, I do terrible things but only because I have big plans for the world" and this is not necessarily bad per se but the problem is that she's not given enough depth to be actually invested in her, worst of all is that she speaks like a typical villain and even Castellucci addresses that in-story but everyone should know that POINTING OUT YOUR PROBLEMS DON'T MAKE THEM GO AWAY! Is still bad villain monologue no matter how much you address it. Plus, Batgirl somehow believes she can be sorta redeemed despite that she has been blatantly killing the weakest members of society, this is just a terrible attempt of trying to make the antagonist sympathetic.

The rest of the issue is mostly dedicated to the new relationship between Babs and Jason and I just don't care about it which makes these last few chapters a complete waste. This issue is especially bad because I thought that Castellucci was a smarter writer based on her initial arc but I should have known better based on her work on Female Furies.

Carmine Di Giandomenico never disappoints in art duties though with a really detailed and unique style that gets the best from the script.

Can't recommend. Not sure what to expect next.
