Some thoughts about Teen Titans #42

How can the Teen Titans work together again?

The team is broken after Robin's actions but once that Brother Blood appears to be dead, they will have no choice but to try to solve this mystery.

A new run begins and it comes with both positives and negatives, but mostly negatives so far.

Robbie Thompson is the one who follows Adam Glass in this book and, just like I mentioned during the last chapter, it seemed that Glass' final arc was made to get Thompson accustomed to the book and it worked in some aspects. The ramifications of the last storyline are still being felt due that the characters barely trust each other, and most of them don't trust Damian at all which is something logical. There's some respect for continuity as well like how Wallace mentions that his last two Teen Titans teams didn't work well or Damian's dynamic with Alfred.

Then again, this also comes with some issues. Most of the characters sound a little... off, like lacking in personality compared to how Glass wrote them, especially Roundhouse who used to steal the scene everywhere and now is barely noticeable. Worst of all though, is that this affected Wallace who used to be the voice of reason under Glass and now is weirdly infatuated by Emiko (I mean, yes, they shared a few moments of connection during Glass' run but nothing as over-the-top) while Emiko herself seems to be oddly affected by "killing" Slade which didn't affect her that much during Glass' run and most importantly, it shouldn't affect her at all since she killed her own surrogate father when she realized he lied to her (Then again, this might be mostly because they follow the terrible work of Ben Percy instead of the one by Jeff Lemire).

Javier Fernandez handles the art and is solid with expressive characters and clear storytelling.

Mixed thoughts. Hope things get better.
