Some thoughts about Superman #22

Is this their final battle?

Superman and Mongul are about to destroy each other and Clark will need to do his best to not only defeat his enemy but also keep the unity of planets.

This was actually better than previous issues at least.

Brian Bendis returns with a chapter that is mostly devoted to action and to be honest, that's the weakest part. The full fight scene is rather simple and Bendis tries to disguise it by injecting his usual overwritten dialogue that can provide a few interesting lines sometimes but is ultimately heavyhanded and tiresome.

The best part of the story are the personal moments that include the investigation against Lois and how Clark tries to handle the United Planets, all of this concluding in a solidly-executed reunion between Lois and Clark.

That being said, the best part of the entire issue is Kevin Maguire's artwork which I missed a lot. Maguire is one of those artists whose style doesn't get dated and even improves with the years, it's full of extremely expressive characters and great storytelling.

Not bad but not sure what to expect next.
