Some thoughts about Freedom Fighters #6

Can the Freedom Fighters defeat a Superman?

The last son of Krypton had the misfortune of being found by Hitler and so he became the Ratzis' biggest weapon. Now the Freedom Fighters will have to face that terror once again.

Everything has been building-up to this point.

Robert Venditti delivers a new installment where he creates the conflict he has been teasing for a while. The presence of Overman has been felt pretty much since the beginning and the writer knows how to exploit this the most. Just from the opening page you can see how much Venditti pays respect to Grant Morrison, the creator of Overman, by creating a homage to the beginning of one of Morrison best stories All-Star Superman, this is perfect in many different levels due that Venditti also references other Morrison stories like The Multiversity and even Final Crisis, the latter being particularly important because it showcases the death of Overgirl and what actually happened to Overman.

The action is also well-handled thanks to the exciting fight scenes and how huge the stakes are at this point, not all of the Freedom Fighters are going to survive this encounter and sets the pieces for the next story.

Eddy Barrows handles the art and is really solid with a pretty grim tone that is perfect for this kind of direction.

Good read, hope the next one continues this trend.
