Some thoughts about Action Comics #39

Lana is in danger and Superman is the only one who can save her.

Smallville is still under attack of the creature that has been causing terror among the people and to defeat it, Clark will need to face his own fears and try to make such being exactly what it wants.

The conclusion of this arc brings yet another satisfying chapter.

Greg Pak delivers a new installment where he character work is one of the strongest factors. Both Steel and Lana receive some really good moments of characterization but the best obviously belong to Clark.

The issue is divided in segments where they explore the past, present and even future, is about how Superman sees those different eras of his life, how it will inevitably end and how he will always have to face everything no matter what. Great portrayal.

It was also nice to see an old antagonist being reinvented here.

Art duties are shared between Aaron Kuder and Scott Kolins with Kuder focusing on the flashbacks and Kolins concentrating on present time. All works really well overall.

Pretty good issue, can't wait for the next one.
