The reign of the Overman is in danger.
After spending so many years ruling over a conquered planet, Overman is starting to doubt about his purpose in life and that's enough for a terrorist group called the Freedom Fighters to give the final attack.
Well, people who have read Final Crisis most likely will recognize some of these events.
The story immediately opens with Hitler in the toilet, this is apparently due to Grant Morrison's early work in the book The New Adventures of Hitler which satirized the tyrant, the writer obviously loves to make fun of him. However, the tone immediately changes when Morrison focuses on the suffering of Overman and how the years of mistakes are starting to bring him down.
As a characterization, it actually works pretty well due that it portrays the protagonist in a quite sympathetic light. About the rest of the cast, there are numerous analogues of the Justice League including Leatherwing/Batman, Underwaterman/Aquaman, The Martian/Martian Manhunter, etc. They're not as well explored as Overman but they're interesting enough.
In terms of the Freedom Fighters, they're actually not the good guys and their actions at times make them look as bad as the people who they're fighting against.
About the events that connect this story to Final Crisis is mostly represented as the death of a certain character who has a connection to the protagonist.
About the artwork, Jim Lee is able to follow the story surprisingly well by making both humourous and emotional scenes whenever they're needed and executing them pretty well. The big moments are also nicely depicted.
Satisfying issue overall, probably not one of the best but still pretty good.
