Catwoman has doomed yet another loved one.
Selina has come to visit an old friend, someone who has suffered because of their connection and now things could get even worse.
Well, it seems like I was wrong during last issue.
I thought that the person who appeared at the end of the last chapter was Holly and that Joelle Jones was going to try to fix some of the damage that Tom King did to her character during his Batman run. Sadly, that's not the case and this is actually a new character that was introduced here. That being said, is still a decent story.
Jones explores some of Selina's past, particularly her childhood and the relationship she had with a girl named Maggie, a relationship that would ultimately make her pay a huge price. This actually plays with classic Catwoman themes about how many of people who are close to her end-up in tragedy so it seems appropriate despite that I feel that it gives Selina more tragedy than she needs. Still, the story explores interesting and realistic aspects of the protagonist's life and it seems like is even connected to her Year One origins.
Unfortunately, this is still a bit of a fast read once again since it's mostly centered around flashbacks which let us know more about Catwoman but doesn't progress the plot that much.
Jones handles the present scenes while Fernando Blanco is in charge of the past segment and both a really good job during their respective scenes, especially Jones.
Solid read but I hope the next one has more content.
EDIT: Apparently, Maggie was introduced during Ed Brubaker's run. My bad. Still shows how much Jones respect history.
