What could drown the Earth?
Aquaman has decided to investigate the stories about one of Atlantis's greatest heroes and that will lead him to a threat that could destroy the whole planet.
And here we are, the beginning of yet another "big story" handled by Scott Snyder. As I mentioned before, I haven't been particularly happy with how this series is developing, particularly because of Snyder's overexposition and how his conclusions are basically just set-ups for the next "big story". That being said, the fact that this is an Aquaman-centered event automatically makes it more more interesting for me.
The way how this series starts is pretty solid. If there's something that I can appreciate about Snyder's writing is his worldbuilding and he doesn't disappoint here in that regard since he expands the mythology behind Atlantis to include a few key aspects like the importance of a legendary hero named Arion and explores it in a way that includes different world and deities in a logical manner. It makes a lot of sense that there are other aquatic Gods from other planets and that idea is nicely implemented into the story.
Mind you, I think the consequence of such attack has a lot in common with Geoff Johns' Throne of Atlantis event and I'm pretty sure that Snyder is heavily basing his work in that story but I don't have many complaints about it since Throne of Atlantis was pretty good. I just hope that Snyder is able to give a good conclusion to such arc.
Francis Manapul handles the artwork and is really magnificent, full of beautiful characters and scenarios with a storytelling that elevates the plot even more.
Good beginning, just continue to be good please.
