Some thoughts about Dastardly & Muttley #6

Can Dastardly and Muttley prevent their world from becoming a completely different one?

Dick is willing to sacrifice himself for his planet but Mutt is having second thoughts about it but it could be too late for everyone.

This miniseries comes to an end and is a surprisingly heartbreaking one.

Garth Ennis concentrates this final chapter on the terrifying ramifications of the Hanna Barbera world assimilating the real one. The way how the characters act continues to be humourous for the most part and is quite funny to see how the cast starts getting self-aware about their current condition to the point they break the 4th wall and even censor themselves from saying politically incorrect words.

All of this makes the saddest part of the story even more surprising since Muttley quickly realizes what is about to happen to them and that it could mean that he would never see his family again. What follows is a strong showcase of the classic humanity that Ennis always portrays in his book, you can see the desperation in Mutt's actions and feel sympathetic for him despite of what could happen to the rest of the world. All of this culminates in a pretty dark conclusion that I sincerely wasn't expecting considering the beginning of the series and at the same time is connected to the original cartoon.

Mauricet remains in art duties and the work is still quite solid thanks to the cartoony characters that mix nicely with the more realistic ones, the expressions are quite detailed as well.

Enjoyable overall, wouldn't mind more series like this.
