Can the Runaways run away?
Molly has discovered that her grandmother had bigger plans for her and now is up to her friends to save her.
This series continues to improve fortunately.
Rainbow Rowell brings a new chapter that plays with the ramifications of the last one focusing on Molly's evil grandma. This is something that was heavily telegraphed since the beginning but thankfully the story shows some levels of self-awareness about it and also plays with more complex themes like how despite that Molly's grandma might be evil, she's still her grandma and therefore gives the cast a dilemma about fighting her. Is pretty similar to the theme from the original volume where the protagonist had to fight against their parents and so is pretty fitting. The interactions between the characters is well-done and the idea of family is nicely-executed.
I have a few problems about the teases of a Nico/Karolina relationship. Karolina always had a thing for Nico but people familiar with this team realize that Nico constantly rejected her and hurt her feelings... while at the same time acting strangely jealous whenever Karolina was with someone else. This shows that there might (and I say might) be some hints about Nico having hidden feelings but that doesn't make one forget that she was pretty inconsiderate and selfish towards Karolina even despite that she apparently didn't want anything with her. This is one of the reasons why I feel like this relationship is not really the best result, I mean, it works in the current Hulu show because they start as a couple from the get go but here they have too much bad history to make it look good.
Kris Anka's artwork is still amazing, is really detailed and captures the expressions of the characters perfectly.
Aside from a few nitpicks, this book is making me pleasently surprised, hope next issue follows the same trend.
