Can the New Superman discover his own ideals?
Kenan has just learned that his father is the leader of Freedom Fighters of China and they're trying to create democracy no matter what. Now is up to Kenan to find out what is truly important.
Credit where credit is due, I think this worked quite well.
Gene Luen Yang offers a new chapter where he plays with the ramifications of the last one with Kenan learning that he has been fighting against his own father all this time. The characterization is pretty solid thanks to the logical developments that most members of the cast suffer and it creates a pretty realistic relationship between Kenan and his father which makes me appreciate more of both.
The strongest aspect of the book is the political tone it surprisingly gets. The clash between different politics is pretty compelling due that there's no perfect side here, even the side who wants democracy proves to flawed due to how it can put their ideals over real people and their actual needs (and is hard not to find the "Democracies decay into tirannies" line sadly cathartic considering today's events).
The plot also progresses nicely with several sub-plots being developed and new directions being implemented.
Viktor Bogdanovic remains in art duties and his work remains gorgeous with beautifully expressive characters and a clean semi-cartoony style.
Quite enjoyable, hope it continues this way.
