Some thoughts about Deadman: Dark Mansion of Forbidden Love #1

What is the mystery inside of the mansion?

Berenice has decided to investigate the strange events that attracted her to desolated house but she's not ready for what is about to happen.

This pretty much came out of nowhere for me, I swear to God I didn't even know this was announced but I'm really glad it was.

Sarah Vaughn offers an opening chapter where she focuses on the protagonist of the story, Berenice, along with Boston Brand, Deadman. Yes, despite that Deadman appears in the title, the story is not exactly about him, he's just another character in a plot that involves his special skills and quite frankly it works for the better here. Vaughn immediately introduces us to a pretty interesting woman who also has certain abilities related to the supernatural and the writer not only manages to execute that kind of premise nicely but she also offers a lot of insight about the character herself.

One of the biggest aspects that makes this issue so good is the overall craft. This is solid, SOLID writing, the cast is compelling, the premise is interesting, the dialogue flows really well, the pacing is appropriate and most importantly, it creates a great and suspenseful atmosphere that exploits the setting perfectly and so, is quite fitting for the character of Deadman.

Lan Medina handles the artwork and he also deserves a lot of credit due that he follows the script excellently by making every scene intriguing, creative and gothic, everything with a really beautiful style.

A pleasent surprise definitely, invested in this now.
