Doctor Fate's supernatural adventures are far from over.
Khalid has been taken to another dimension where strange things are occurring and is up to him to find a way to escape before is too late.
Okay, let's be honest here, barely anything happened.
This is not a surprise since this is Paul Levitz we're talking about and he's famous for his incredibly slow pacing without anything remotely memorable happening during issues but in this series, I believe he found a nice balance thanks to the character work and interactions and while the mythbuilding here is kinda interesting, it doesn't compensate for the fact that plot-wise, this barely advanced.
And I think the problem is that there was very little dynamic between Khalid and the rest of the cast. They just appeared a bit at the beginning but then things quickly went for the supernatural. I feel this title shines the most when it deals with Khalid's family and friends. Hell, even a bit of social commentary would be welcomed to make things more interesting (despite that I'm not a fan when is handled wrong like Ben Percy in Green Arrow).
The biggest appeal of the installment is Brendan McCarthy's artwork which has a quite creative style that is pretty fitting for the title, especially during the most bizarre scenes of the story.
Other than that, I can't really recommend this one. Better luck next time.
