Can the recently formed Justice League stop a threat that it's bound to destroy the universe?
Originally the Ultra Project was about bringing peace to the universe by uniting all the genetic codes from the different races around the planets to create a single being that would represent everyone. Now, in the hands of Lord Byth that project has turn into a weapon that could threaten all existence.
The third issue from the new cosmic series handled by Jeff Lemire and this seems to be when things start to pick up.
The early issues were pretty solid with good humour but not enough concepts nor plot being delivered. However, in this chapter we see several new ideas and settings being explore along with some pretty interesting plot-points about the true origin of the upcoming a threat, as well as a connection to the first issue. Lord Byth is also a quite convincing menace and it's being introduced as one of the most dangerous beings in the universe. There's a pretty good cosmic feel on this book due to the different aspects they're exploring.
Plus, Lemire hasn't lost the sense of humour that existed in the previous installments. There's a lot of pretty good banter in this issue that manages to create great relationshipts and portrayals for all the members of the cast.
Mike McKone continues to bring really strong and beautiful art that gives this title a pretty good style along with solid storytelling. Marcelo Maiolo complements that perfectly with vibrant colors that make the art even better.
The best issue from this series so far, glad that it's improving.
