Some thoughts about Batgirl #33

Can Batgirl trust her brother?

James has been freed and Barbara doesn't believe his intentions are good despite what everyone else says.

A new storyarc begins and once again starts with potential for the most part.

Mairghread Scott delivers the follow-up she created just at the beginning of her run concerning the fate of James Gordon. The idea that James could have been rehabilitated despite of being a complete psychopath who caused a lot of suffering to his family and everyone else raises quite a few eyebrows and this is especially emphasized on Babs' reaction who doesn't trust him for the already mentioned obvious reasons.

The thing is that one would think that the rest of the world would also suspect considering James' whole criminal history but his forgiveness comes a little too soon to believe, particularly considering that Jim Gordon also suddenly trusts him. This is especially a problem because James was an antagonist of Jim as much as Babs' and thus this reaction comes pretty out of nowhere.

That being said, I believe the idea of psychos being able to redeem themselves is interesting and the issue plays with such theme accordingly... until the end when it seems like The Batman who Laughs is apparently manipulating James and I just can ask: WHY?! The story progressed realistically enough without the inclusion of such an over the top and overused character.

Elena Casagrand and Scott Godlewski share the pencils and their work is really good looking thanks to the clear storytelling and clean style.

Again, I think this has potential but the execution is a bit messy. Hope the continuation is better.
