Some thoughts about Wonder Woman/Justice League Dark: The Witching Hour #1

What is happening to Wonder Woman?

Something marked Diana since her childhood and now is coming back for her and the world of magic.

This special focuses on the plot-point that James Tynion IV created during Justice League Dark and so far he does a decent job although not without the problems that come with it.

First of all, the story once again takes us back to Diana's past and how Hecate put her mark on her. The thing about this particular plot-point is that I don't really like it due that it seems rather unnecessary, is basically a forced retcon to Diana's backstory to give her a bigger connection to the supernatural side of the DCU and thus justify her role in the team. As I mentioned before, Wonder Woman's place in the group doesn't make much sense although on the other hand, I also would have prefered if her past wasn't altered simply to make her role more fitting.

That being said, the story itself is decent enough due that it presents Hecate as a believable force that the JLD has to stop although it does falls in certain tiring tropes like killing a bunch of magical beings to showcase her power. Still, the characterization is solid for the most part and the cast have interesting conversations with one another, Detective Chimp is definitily the star here thanks to his personality.

Jesus Merino is surprisingly good in art duties due that he recreates all the supernatural events perfectly and with solid sense of scale.

Not bad overall but let's see how it continues.
