Some thoughts about Green Arrow #45

Green Arrow's biggest loss has happened.

Roy has been murdered and Oliver doesn't know who to blame and this path can only bring him more pain.

Here it is, the inevitable ramifications of the worst book from last week is finally reaching other books.

As you should know, Heroes in Crisis saw the death of many heroes, one of them being Roy Harper, Arsenal. Speaking as a Green Arrow fan, I love Roy, in my mind he's essentially a better Oliver Queen because of all the things he has endured and succeeded so I obviously hated the idea of killing him. That being said, both Julie and Shawna Benson know how to create a good story from that terrible editorial mandate.

This chapter is focused on Roy's funeral and how all the people close to him react to it, especially Ollie. Ollie's actions in this issue are pretty logical in fact, he blames others, he fights others, he threatens others only to finally blame himself for everything, that's perfectly in character as far as I'm concerned due that it shows the multiple emotions he has to handle at the same time and if there's something true about Ollie is that he never stays quiet.

The issue ends in a semi-positive light though with Ollie remembering the best aspects of Roy and those also sounded fairly accurate. This also leads to a new direction for the series and hopefully it will be good.

Javier Fernandez handles the art and is really solid thanks to the precise storytelling although the character models are not my favorite.

Good read, shame about what had to happen though.
