Some thoughts about Batman: The Merciless #1

What created the God of War from the Dark Multiverse?

Batman suffered the loss of many of his friends and he had no choice but become a creature without mercy that will destroy everything he considers weak.

The Metal tie-ins continue and fortunately this is yet another successful one.

Peter Tomasi brings the story of yet another Batman analogue, this time with a Wonder Woman theme and it surprisingly manages to deliver a lot of worldbuilding. For one, the writer doesn't spend much time in this Batman's origin but his motivations are still clear and appropriate enough to make you understand why he turned this way while contrasting his chaotic nature perfectly with the more hopeful DCU.

The best part is how many concepts Tomasi reunites here. People in charge of protecting the world like Steve Trevor, Amanda Waller, Father Time, Sam Lane, Director Bones among others appear here and is pretty interesting to see the connection between all of them and how each one of them handle the situation differently. The author also includes some underused Green Lantern characters like Tom Langley and Cowgirl who I'm glad that they have relevant roles.

Francis Manapul is one of the biggest reasons why I liked this so much, his artwork is outstanding, full of beautiful characters and quite creative presentation. Easily the best looking style this week.

Solid read, hope the next one is just as good.
