How can Mister Miracle escape now?
Scott and Barda have accepted Darkseid's conditions of giving up their son to save their world. However, there must be some way to get around this deal.
Once again, this worked pretty solidly.
Tom King offers a new installment where he concentrates on the inevitable conflict with Darkseid. One of the best aspects of the issue is, as usual, how King contrasts the typical things that a couple has to the handle with the impossible and terrifying. Just from the early pages when Barda salutes a friend from Apokolips just like two normal girlfriends would do, you realize that this is a story that is completely self-aware of its context, the fact that they even bring a veggie tray to their meeting with Darkseid makes things even more obvious and better as a whole.
The story gets serious almost immediately though since is pretty clear that both Scott and Barda are not willing to let their son go so easily and that leads to a pretty climactic fight with the leader of Apokolips. The conclusion seems to be even more interesting though since all of this is apparently leading to the current DC continuity and now things are starting to fit into place.
Mitch Gerads' art is once again amazing due that he's able to capture every expression and moment from the script perfectly, elevating the whole story to a brand new level.
Good stuff, can't wait to see the conclusion.
