The Men of Tomorrow are about to face one of the greatest minds from today.
Clark has helped Ulysses to find his true parents and this makes him realize that both have more in common than what he initially thought. However, there will always be certain differences and these will be even clearer once that they face the Machinist, a criminal who is able to hunt both of them for his own gain.
If anything, Geoff Johns is currently doing some of the best character work this title has seen.
The dynamic as well as the comparisons between Superman and Ulysses are really well depicted and Johns a pretty good job at emphasizing both their similarities and differences, especially based on their respective origins and powers. It's something that works in many different levels and especially demonstrate the kind of person Clark is and the dilemmas he has to face.
As a villain, the Machinist is a pretty interesting and imposing threat and one that most certainly will continue to develope in the future since there are several sub-plots being introduced here about him and one presented at the end that will create a compelling conflict for these characters.
The artwork by John Romita Jr. is kinda of an acquired taste. The way he draws the members of the cast might be a bit awkward due to his unique style but he still compensates it with quite polished storytelling techniques that depict the story perfectly.
I have some complaints about the amount of content but the different sub-plots introduced here are still enough to call this a quite compelling read and one of the best from this week.
