Learn about the origins of Cyborg, Red Hood and Mera from a new perspective.
What is the relationship between Victor Stone and his father? How did Jason Todd deal with being trained by Batman? What was Mera's mission? Prepare to know the answers.
I must admit that this issue actually exceeded my expectations.
The first segment belongs to Cyborg and is written by his creator Marv Wolfman. This is actually a lot better than I thought since the writer creates a pretty logical next step for Victor and his father which makes their relationship much more relatable, this thanks to the on-point characterization and natural dialogue. Edgar Salazar is in charge of the art duties here and his expressive and polished work follows the script perfectly.
The second section is focused on Jason Todd handled by Scott Lobdell. It's actually a solid story that follow a lot of the themes of character progression that the author has been developing for him in his main book, not many surprises but still a pretty good read. The artwork was delivered by Jack Herbert and he has pretty appealing style overall, not really impressive but solid nonetheless.
The third part is concentrated on Mera written by Jeff Parker and he probably does one of his best works in the franchise yet. The origin is actually a story that hasn't been told before and it explores a lot of aspects from Mera's character and the world of Xebel, not to mention that creates a good motivation for her to stay with Aquaman. The pencils are brought by Daniel HDR and his work is perfect here, it complements the story nicely and has a pretty attractive look.
Overall, I would say that I liked Mera's origin the best with Cyborg's on second place and Jason's on third, all of them were worth reading though. This was a pretty good chapter without a doubt.
