What does Deathstroke want?

Hal and Oliver are having a little trip which will suddenly be interrupted by Slade whose role might be much bigger than those two heroes can handle.

Hey, a new team-up between Hal and Ollie! YAY!

... But is written by Jeremy Adams. *sigh*

I have mentioned before that I'm not particularly a fan of Jeremy Adams' work, not because I consider it necessarily "bad" but I find most of his work to obnoxiously "mid" (one of the reasons why I dropped his runs on both The Flash and Green Lantern) and sadly that trend seems to be continuing here.

First of all, we open with Hal and Ollie arguing about their vacations and I already have an issue here. Is very, VERY weird when Ollie is the responsible one in a situation which is strangely his role here being concerned about their trip being longer than it should and that he would prefer to be with Dinah. First of all, this wasn't even the sort of dynamic that Dennis O'Neil established when he created their friendship (and even that wasn't really on-point based on their original personalities) and the fact that Ollie is concerned about being away from Dinah doesn't sound too accurate either, I could buy this if we were talking about Barry Allen missing his girlfriend (and speaking of which, there's more about him later) but about Ollie? Not so much. Not to mention that there's also an intent to recreate the political dynamic between the two that O'Neil cemented but is overall rather shallow.

Second, the plot is not really that interesting since is all about the two of them facing Deathstroke but it doesn't really tell us much about the antagonist nor his plans so the story itself loses most of its purpose. In fact, it mostly seems like a preview for an upcoming event and not a particularly interesting one and thus, the segment feels worthless.

Lucas Meyer handles the art and is pretty solid though with expressive characters and clear storytelling.

Do you know what makes this look even more like a simple preview though? There's a second feature about The Flash and Green Lantern (So, the special itself is not even really about the characters in the title, misleading) and again, is all really about Deathstroke and what he's planning to do next in other titles. Travis Mercer handles this section and his artstyle is very pleasant at least with a vibrant look.

Overall, I feel like this was a waste of an special and should have been more. I'm not tempted to look at more of the upcoming Adam's works.
