Some thoughts about Teen Titans: Rebirth #1

Who is the Teen Titans' greatest adversary?

The team doesn't know what to do after Tim Drake's death and they're trying to find their place in the world but Damian might have better ideas for them.

Here it is people, the dreaded time is here. Ben Percy has finally arrived to write the Teen Titans, a series that has been heavily mistreated for years now. People who know me should be familiarized about how much I despise his Green Arrow work because a complete lack of good execution that creates some of the worst characterization, dialogue and stories ever seen. So, with that in mind, how does this work fare?

... Solidly enough surprisingly?

Yeah, Percy is fortunately not dedicating his usual emphasis on trying to sound intelligent/stupid but instead he concentrates on trying to give most of the characters solid portrayals based on their previous storylines. That's something I never thought that I would say, Ben Frikking Percy creating good characterization based on established continuity! Something that hasn't happened during his GA work so far and the dialogue works shockingly well too with interesting lines here and there and not a glance of purple prose (or at least is not as noticeable).

I don't think is perfect though since for some reason Damian has captured the whole team. I'm going to give this a pass since is not the first time that a Batcharacter has defeated beings that are clearly more powerful than him. However, I have problems with Damian's portrayal due that based on the development from the last few years, he wouldn't have done that, he would have at least tried to contact the team to listen to him. This is most likely done to create a shocking last page and it might work but I don't have a lot of hope since this is written by the guy who made Emiko Queen betray Oliver and then going all "Hey, don't hold a grudge" and Ollie easily accepting her apologies.

Plus Percy has such good luck to work along many talented artists. Jon Meyers here is pretty good at capturing the kinetic nature that a book about young superheroes should have and is able to create beautiful characters with a distinctive style.

Recommended? Maybe this one, not sure about what is going to happen next.
