Some thoughts about Sideways #1

A new era presents a new superhero.

Derek received strange abilities after the event in Gotham and now is ready to get famous thanks to them, that is if he can survive.

Another Metal spinoff has appeared and this time it brings young blood into the whole DC universe.

Dan Didio and Justin Jordan bring the story of Derek and how he's using his recently-found powers. The characterization is pretty solid, the premise of the protagonist is basically "teenage boy becomes superhero" stuff but still the writers manage to get a few interesting twists from it like how Sideways uses his abilities to become a superhero youtuber which is suppose is something relevant for this day and age. Fortunately, Derek is still likable despite of it and his desire to become popular is understandable considering the circunstances presented while his origin is shown in a manner doesn't interrupt the story.

One of the best aspects of the book is the dialogue, is pretty natural and energetic, exactly what is needed in a young superhero title. This is especially appreciated during the characters' interactions and makes the relationships Derek has with his family and friends much more believable.

Keneth Rocafort is in charge of the pencils and his work is fantastic thanks to unique style that creates beautiful characters and inventive storytelling.

Is a fun beginning without a doubt, hope it continues this way.
