Some thoughts about Aquaman #33

Aquaman will have to save his world.

Arthur is ready to defeat Rath and make Mera the Queen of Atlantis but do so, first he will have to save her life.

This issue is basically preparing us for the conclusion of the storyline but that isn't necessarily a bad thing.

Dan Abnett is starting to close the door on many of the plot-points he created for this long arc in a way that makes sense. The character work is one of the shining aspects here since Arthur has managed to reunite the different races both inside and outside of Atlantis to defeat a common enemy which makes all this journey pretty satisfying and once again, Abnett completely understands the relationship between Arthur and Mera and makes their interactions some of the most touching from the book.

However, as I mentioned this is mostly a set-up for the conclusion and that's pretty clear because of how much the issue focuses on big action scenes that don't really progress the plot that much. The fight segments are fun and everything but I can't help but think that makes the issue lack proper content but on the other hand, I consider it necessary to create anticipation.

Riccardo Federeci remains in art duties and his work is once again quite appropriate for the fantasy tone this direction had since the beginning.

Solid chapter, hope the finale is good.
