The West Coast needs its Avengers back.
Clint believes that Kate is ready to lead their time but she's not so sure about it, especially because of their new teammates.
I've been anticipating this for a long time and while it did took a while, I'm glad to finally have these characters once again.
As some of you might know, I was a huge fan of Kelly Thompson's Hawkeye because of the solid characterization, enjoyable adventures and especially the entertaining humour she injected into the book, she certainly got Kate Bishop and made her an even more appealing character, and thankfully she seems like is going to continue that great path.
The story opens comically enough with an attack of land sharks while Clint is telling people the reason why Kate deserves to be the leader of the West Coast Avengers. This is actually a pretty solid point since Clint has always been the classic leader of the team and is cool that Thompson was able to deliver a good explanation for it while also acknowledging that Kate is not perfect in the funniest way possible.
The format of the story proceeds in a similar way with the members of the team talking about what they think about their new role and I'm glad to see many familiar faces here. America didn't have much luck during her last solo book (mostly because she was written by a terrible author) but here Thompson portrays her in an adequate and more classic way. The arrival of Quentin Quire and Gwenpool bring a brand new dynamic into the mix since both have a lot of personality and clash with one another as expected. The least interesting character is Fuse, Kate's boyfriend, whose personality is... being Kate's boyfriend and doesn't go too far beyond that (then again, this was also the case in Thompson's Hawkeye).
The dialogue is both natural and hilarious as expected and allows for many comedic scenes that include a bunch of silly superheroes each more ridiculous than the last one doing interviews for Kate's team, the return of a famous West Coast Avenger and yet another goofy new character.
Stefano Caselli handles the art and is stunning, full of beautiful characters, strong action scenes and precise storytelling.
Fantastic read, exactly what I was hoping for.
