Nothing can stop the kids from the future.
Superboy and Robin are still trying to become the best superheroes they can but once that a mysterious team appears, they will realize they're not quite ready yet.
I'm so glad that these kids are back.
As I mentioned before, Peter Tomasi's Super Sons was easily one of the best young superhero titles on the stands and all of that was thanks to the energetic vibe, fun stories and likable characters, Tomasi really knew how to sell Jon and Damian to a new audience and he's willing to do the same with this maxi series.
From the beginning you can notice the same entertaining feel that was so prominent during the last series and most importantly, you can immediately appreciate the relationship between Jon and Damian whose dynamic remains enjoyable as always. Tomasi has defined their characters perfectly during their interactions, the contrast between their different personalities continues to be a joy. This is one of the writer's strongest points, he's able to write kids without making them sound like caricatures and actually making them endearing.
The plot itself is pretty simple yet gets the job done. Is more of the usual fun adventures that both characters have. The difference is that this time the future is involved and now includes a young team of supervillains that seem like parodies of classic DCU antagonists but works really well for this book and protagonist.
Carlo Barberi handles the art and is really fitting thanks to his flexible, semi-cartoony style and expressive characters.
Good read, hope the next one arives soon.
