Can Batgirl fight against her own family?
James always held a grudge against Barbara and now he will realize that he needs to be even more involved in her life.
Two issues of Batgirl are delivered this week and fortunately, this also works rather well.
Mairghread Scott offers another installment, this time focusing on the complicated relationship between Barbara and James and how that could influence the next case she has to work on. The dynamic between the two is solidly depicted and is based on pretty accurate moments from Gail Simone's run (including her origin and the last time they fought).
Mind you, I have a few issues with the characterization since it seems like James has always been jealous of her and that's one of the reasons why he has been so fixated on her while also throwing a tantrum which seems a bit wrong. James has always been pretty cold during most of his appearances, he has always been pretty calculating in his acts, rarely losing control and not really showing these particular traits. This is way this portrayal feels a bit off, I don't see him having this kind of behavior.
That being said, the story progress at a nice pace and the investigation is handled appropriately while connecting it to Barbara and James' particular relationship and their future.
Elena Casagrande handles the art and is really good looking with expressive characters, precise storytelling and an appealing semi-cartoony style.
Good read, things are looking promising.
