Can Doctor Fate save magic?
Diana and her new team have decided to ask Kent Nelson to see what's happening to the forces of magic but the answers could be more dangerous than they expected.
This was actually yet another suprisingly good issue... aside from a few concerns.
James Tynion IV brings a new intallment where he plays with multiple concepts surrounding magic and how they're implemented into the story. The chapter offers a lot of content which is divided in different segments focusing on multiple characters from Diana's quest to find out what's happening to the supernatural side of the DCU while others like John Constantine and Swamp Thing planning what to do next.
The story takes a direction that is heavily based on the horror genre which is pretty fitting for this title and the plot scalates appropriately towards the surprising and terrifying ending. I was initially disappointed that it seemed like Tynion was going to focus on the classic version of Doctor Fate and completely forget Khalid Nassour but thankfully he creates a pretty solid twist about the two.
... However, there are a few things that give me pause. Particularly the opening scene where Diana is apparently "marked" during her childhood and I don't know if this kind of change in her history is going to be good in the long term, especially how it involves her normal life.
Alvaro Martinez' artwork is amazing, really vibrant, energetic and beautiful, being able to depict the supernatural settings and creatures perfectly.
Strong chapter as a whole, hope it continues this way.
