Some thoughts about Justice League #40

Which Justice League will survive?

The Fan is still decided to make the Justice League the team he wants them to be and now is willing to sacrifice another one to do it.

This worked in so many levels.

Christopher Priest brings a new installment where he plays with that lost potential called the Justice League of America. As most people should know, Steve Orlando's JLA didn't live-up to the expectations to say the least, creating one of the most uninspired team books in recent memory and that's actually a concept that Priest implements here. The JLA is constantly being denigrated in comparison to the main JLA, even to the point of called the "B team" but fortunately Priest also understands that believing themselves better than others is not the point of the JL and gives every character their own value. Is a nice chapter that works well in a plot and meta sense.

The character work is also quite solid due to how all these characters interact, not a fan of how Priest handles Dinah who seems more dickish than usual but that might be because he's basing her on Ben Percy's work (as usual, everything is Percy's Green Arrow fault) but the rest of the cast is well-handled. The theme about The Fan continues to be fun due that he's clearly just a big fanboy that thinks he knows better than the actual JL (again, going meta). All of these aspects offer a quite dense read.

Pete Woods handles the art and is decent with clear storytelling but not as polished as his usual work.

Pretty good entry overall, can't wait for the next one.
