Some thoughts about Justice League of America #21

The Justice League has just lost a member.

The Ray is back in Vanity wanting to make his city a better place and the first thing he will have to do is deal with one of its new heroes.

This was fine enough at least.

Steve Orlando delivers a new chapter where he makes The Ray return to his city and to be honest, is the best direction. The world that Orlando created during its previous one-shot showed tons of potential which made me want to see more of it. The way how Vanity is explored here is also decent and Orlando manages to introduce Grant Morrison's concepts as usual like Astek which connects it logically with the death of the last one during Morrison's JLA.

On the other hand, the way how Ray leaves the JLA makes little sense, I feel like Orlando didn't set-up Ray's quitting the team appropriately and for that reason this new development seems like it came out of nowhere. It might be because they're preparing a new Ray series and I would be grateful for that since he's the best character in the book and then it would save me the effort of enduring this one but things could have been better handled.

Stephen Byrne is in charge of the art and his work is quite good with a cartoony style and strong expressions.

Not bad but not great either. At least I can finally drop this one.
