Some thoughts about Shazam #8

Who is the new member of the Shazam family?

Billy has arrived into the Darklands where he's going to meet a strange yet familiar being which will lead him to give his powers to someone really close to him.

This issue delivered quite a few developments.

First of all, it's always a pleasure to see the return of this series and Geoff Johns makes the wait worth it. The mythos around the Magiclands are further explored, creating a connection to the Shazam family and planting the seeds for the future which will most certainly deliver interesting surprises concerning some of the characters.

It's also seems like Johns is playing with the history of the character including his original name, Captain Marvel which doesn't go as far as breaking the 4th wall nor retconning stuff but at the same time, there seems to be a particular plan for the appearance of such name in such way. The progress is also solid since Mr. Mind's plans are being revealed and the issue offers yet another intriguing twist towards the end.

Scott Kolins handles the art and is decent with good expressions and appropriate storytelling.

Nice read, hope the next one doesn't take too long.
