Some thoughts about The Infected: Scarab #1

Can Blue Beetle fight the infection?

Jaime is being controlled by The Batman who Laughs and not even his friends might be able to save him.

Another tie-in about The Infected is here and at the very least this works a bit better than King Shazam.

Dennis Hopeless handles this issue and that's a name I haven't heard in a while since when I was keeping up with Marvel releases but I always liked his emphasis on character work and relationships and you can see part of it here. Just like with King Shazam, the premise is pretty predictable since is just about the infected superhero going bad and people close to him trying to stop him.

What it differs from King Shazam though, is that at least we see how this actually affects Jaime. The infected one is the actual scarab while Jaime is trying to fight the rage that is taking over himself which allows for a few solid moments of characterization showing how he actually cares for his friends which is more than what happened with King Shazam which was just a big by the numbers fight.

Freddy E. Williams II handles the art and is pretty unique with a style that focuses on character expressions and flexibility, creating interesting and horrific visuals.

Decent enough, hope the next tie-in offers more though.
