Whatever happened to Aquaman?
Jackson can't help but remember one of the most traumatic events in his life, one that has keep him imprisoned for way too long and now is time to get rid of such memory.
I have to admit that I was really anticipating this book in particular. The idea of Jackson Hyde becoming the new Aquaman and tutoring Arthur's daughter was just too good to pass, but this issue actually surprise me in more ways with its premise.
Brandon Thomas handles this tale that is divided between the past and the present of this particular timeline. The relationship between Jackson and Andy is nicely portrayed and the writer manages to make all of their moments together really enjoyable, there are even references to the craziest moments in the DCU which I appreciate since it makes the writing really self-aware. It even creates a genuinely good potential for Jakson's future as Aquaman because his father is Black Manta of course and that could create a brand new hero/villain dynamic.
This is all to set-up to upcoming twist that takes place after a while concerning the apparent loss of one of them except that even this segment offers some surprises that make the plot take yet another path that makes me wonder what's going to happen next.
Daniel Sampere handles the art and is really vibrant and expressive, I also need to give props to the colorist Adriano Lucas who complemented the work perfectly with diverse tones depending of the segments.
Promising beginning, can't wait for the next one.
