Some thoughts about Future State: Dark Detective #1

What is the future of Bruce Wayne?

Everyone believes that Batman is dead and while Bruce wants to make the world believe that, Gotham will force him to come back to life.

The Future State tie-ins never end and this time we see a different side of the Batman universe (in fact, we're going to see several different sides soon because this is Batman and DC needs to milk it), particularly focusing on the mysterious fate of Bruce Wayne and it reveals a lot more than I was expecting.

Mariko Tamaki handles the main story and what happens to Bruce once that the world thinks he's gone. The plot escalates pretty quickly dealing with the tense situation that the protagonist is facing now and how the entire city is hunting for him now. The writing is pretty sharp with lines that go straight to the point without being overwritten (which is something that I've been missing on the Batbooks in the last few years) and the conclusion seems to lead to even more interesting developments.

Dan Mora has a style that is really similar to Greg Capullo's (and considering the latter's history on Batman is fitting), the artwork is pretty detailed and follows the story properly.

There's a second segment written by Matthew Rossenberg focusing on Grifter of all people and how he deals with the Gotham City status quo, if you know something about the character is that he tends to use guns which of course puts him at odds with the beliefs of the Batman family which creates a pretty interesting dynamic with Luke Fox who also stars in this tale. The dialogue is pretty entertaining as well and depicts both characters perfectly. Carmine Di Giandomenico handles the art and is great as always with a lot of detail and style in every page.

Good read, so far these tie-ins have been killing it this week.
