Some thoughts about Future State: Robin Eternal #1

Who is the Robin of the future?

Tim Drake is willing to keep fighting despite that everyone in his family isn't and with the help of a couple old friends he will try to protect Gotham once again.

Future State has been hit and miss so far. Some issues have been pretty great while others were just forgettable and sadly, this yet another case of the latter.

Meghan Fitzmartin handles this story centered around Tim still wanting to play vigilante despite of the odds and... that's it, that's the whole premise. Sure, I have enjoyed other Future State that had simplistic plots but they at least had more things going on. This issue feels rather empty in terms of actual story and this becomes even more obvious once you get to the end since it seems like barely anything actually happened in the grand scheme of things. Not even interesting revelations about this time.

There are a few solid aspects like the appearance of Stephanie Brown and We Are Robin references but again, the relationship between Steph and Tim is mostly based on the dynamic by James Tynion IV (which are bad news) and they're definitely not enough to be invested in this.

Eddy Barrows is a good artist with a pretty detailed style but at times his characters can be overexpressive like when it seems like Tim is being asphyxiated.

Average again, next one better be better.
