Some thoughts about Future State: Worlds of War #1

What is happening in Warworld?

Several heroes are fighting for their lives inside of Mongul's kingdom and they all will have to escape in their own ways.

Another big Future State issue is here and fortunately, this is one of the most consistent so far.

We open with a Superman story written by Phillip Kennedy Johnson which is heavily focused on what common people believe about the Man of Steel in a time where he seems like he's dead. While this is not a novel idea per se, the writer manages to create a few interesting depictions because of the different perspectives of other people and we see glances of what's happening in this timeline while leading to what actually happened to Superman (Mind you, this kinda contradicts to what we saw in Superman of Metropolis but that's Future State for you). Mikel Janin's beautiful artwork is always a joy to see.

There's another Mister Miracle story written by Brandon Easton that I don't think continues what we previously saw in Superman of Metropolis despite that the protagonist is still Shilo Norman. The writing is still on-point with interesting angles of the classic New Gods' technology and ends in an interesting cliffhanger. Valentine De Landro's art follows that Jack Kirby tone nicely.

Mignighter actually gets a segment handled by Becky Cloonan and Michael Conrad that is all about Midnighter being a badass which is appropriate and fine by me. The little plot there is is well-paced and ends in a pretty interesting and exciting cliffhanger that involves another fun character. Greg Melnikov's pencils are pretty rough but works for the violent action.

Finally, there's a tale about the new Black Racer of all characters written by Jeremy Adams and is shorter than all the rest but is fine since it lets you see more of the protagonist and her life. Siya Oum's pencils are pretty vibrant.

Even the worst of the stories was fine at least which is good enough for me to recommend. Good read.
