Some thoughts about Generations Shattered #1

Who can save the timeline?

Kamandi is the only survivor of his time and now he will need to recruit a team to travel through time and figure out who is causing destruction around all eras.

"From the pages of Death Metal" is usually a bad sign at this point but fortunately Dan Jurgens, Robert Venditti and Andy Schmidt are willing to bring a different spin from that mess and tell a more conventional but still more entertaining tale.

The plot is mostly centered around Kamandi and his quest to find people who can help him to find the cause of this new Crisis. Despite of the different authors, I must say that this mostly feels like a Dan Jurgens story and this is very noticeable because of the many characters, eras and ideas that are related to the writer like the appearance of both an old and young Booster Gold and a segment about the Rise of the Supermen storyline, this is not a jab against the special by the way since both sections contribute to the ongoing story and they're still fairly enjoyable in their simplicity.

This is not the only angle that makes it seem like a Jurgens' tale since the characterization and direction seem rather similar to what happened during Zero Crisis, another of Jurgens' event, but fortunately better executed than that. This way we see a Booster who is very early in his career and thus is the cocky version of himself, a Cyborg Superman who is only looking forward his death (taking notes from Geoff Johns' work), a Green Lantern Sinestro who also made an appearance during Jurgens' Booster Gold and most surprisingly of all, an original Batman with his purple gloves and everything.

The pacing is pretty fast, sometimes a bit too fast since we spend very little time in each era but there are still enough fun moments about them and the writers make most of the characters who appear there very likable while also depicting their core personalities appropriately.

Not necessarily a fan of the conclusion since it leads to another future story but hey, at least you don't spend half of the issue on it like with other events.

Ivan Reis, Fernando Pasarin, John Romita Jr., Aaron Lopresti, Emanuela Lupacchino, Bernard Chang, Yanick Paquette, Kevin Nowlan, Paul Pelletier, Doug Braithwaite, Rags Morales, Mike Perkins and Jurgens himself handle the art. The multiple artists is understandable considering the amount of pages and they all do a solid job while maintaining a consistent tone.

Decent overall, let's see if the actual conclusion is good.
